Marriage proposal during Legends game was joke

Unlike a more successful proposal at the Air Canada Centre in 2012

Love was in the air at the Hockey Hall of Fame Legends Classic Game on Sunday night at the Air Canada Centre. Well, kind of.

Anthony Squarciotta posted a video to his Facebook of him jokingly proposing to his girlfriend on the Jumbotron.

Me and Lauren Carroll had the chance to have some fun at work today, I’d say we did a great job #actorsoftheyear

Squarciotta, who works at the hockey hall of fame, appeared on the Jumbotron kiss cam with his girlfriend. When she goes in for the kiss, he gets down on one knee to a huge uproar from the crowd.

But he quickly straightens up, shaking his head and laughing.

It appears the act was staged but Squarciotta declined to comment.

A similar event happened at the ACC on Valentine’s Day in 2012, except that one was the real deal.

During a Toronto Raptors vs New York Knicks game, Kevin Seon pulled some strings and planned an elaborate proposal for his now wife, Elisa Duva Seon.

Through a friend and a charitable donation to the MLSE foundation, Elisa found herself participating in a game on the court at the first commercial break, with the final prize at the game’s conclusion being — you guessed it — Seon walking onto the court with a ring, to wild applause.

Seon also secretly bought tickets for both of their families to be in the audience.

“We did the game and proposal and then went back to our seats, where both of our families were waiting for us. She was so excited for everyone to be there and couldn’t believe that it had just happened,” said Seon.

The YouTube video has over 197,000 views.

Squarciotta’s video has been shared on popular social media accounts WorldStar, TSN’s BarDown, and @MeninistTweet, where it has over 17,000 likes.
