The corner of Coxwell and Danforth avenues will be busy over the next year.
Coxwell Station closed its bus loop at the end of October, while improvements are being made to make the station accessible.
The buses are now loading and unloading commuters on Coxwell Ave.
The closure has left many commuters frustrated with the extra task of having to exit the station to board buses.
“It’s one of those things where you have to kind of convince yourself that it’s okay, but really it’s not,” Hanna De Leon,a regular commuter in the area, said. “Having to wait outside, especially now that winter is coming, makes it even more aggravating.”
TTC representative Susan Sperling said the loop had to be closed off to make specific improvements.
“Construction of the elevator from street level to the eastbound platform. Complete replacement of the bus loop including sub-grade utilities and light standards around the perimeter of the loop,” she said.
Although the bus loop is expected to re-open in October 2016, De Leon remains skeptical.
“You know how construction is, they say it’s going to be for two months or two weeks or three days, but usually in most cases it’s always more than the actual time frame they give you,” she said.
The TTC is trying its best to make the transition smooth, but according to De Leon, there is also a difference in how often the buses are coming.
“I feel like I’ve actually been waiting for more than usual,” she said.
While it may feel like that, Sperling assures riders that the service has not changed drastically.
“Service levels are essentially the same as they were prior to the closure,” she said. “TTC has added shelters on Coxwell Ave for customer convenience.”
The overall station’s improvements are expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
