5 ways to get the most out of Black Friday

Tips to survive Nov. 27 this year — and beyond

With Christmas a little over a month away, it’s time to begin preparation for Black Friday, the annual day of sales to kick off the holiday shopping season. But before you set out on your expedition on Nov. 27, here are some tips to help you survive this Black Friday.

  1. Start early
Many stores offer pre-Black Friday deals in the days leading up to the main event. Start looking at flyers now, so you can get an idea of what stores offer the best prices. By Friday, you won’t have to scour the mall in search of a good sale.
  2. (Price) game, set & match
Another reason why you should always begin your browsing early: price matching. While you are sure to find great deals at most retailers, there is always the chance that you can find even better sales between competitors.
  3. Mobile madness
Put your smartphone to good use! Start downloading shopping apps that will alert you of the very best sales nearby. Stores will also offer special discounts via app for even better prices.
  4. Surf the Web
Imagine being able to get the most out of Black Friday, without having to endure the crazy crowds and long lines. Well, you can. You do not need to be tech saavy shopper to get the best deals online. Shopping in your PJs is the smart (and lazy) way to survive Black Friday.
  5. Shop Smart
It’s easy to get caught up the Black Friday frenzy and buy, buy, buy! But it is important to have a realistic list of items to purchase before you begin your mission. Just because you see something on sale, does not mean you should run out and get it. Be aware of what you really need, as opposed to what can wait. Believe me, your bank account will thank you.

Let the games begin.
