‘Makes a lot of sense’ to sell marijuana at LCBO: Wynne

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne is suggesting marijuana be sold at the LCBO when legalized. Wynne says that it “makes a lot of sense” to use the distribution system that the province already has in place.

“It makes sense to me that the liquor distribution mechanism that we have in place, the LCBO, is very well-suited to putting in place the social responsibility aspects that would need to be in place,” she said Monday at a press conference.

Since the Liquor Control Board of Ontario already provides safe sales of a controlled substance, it would be an easy way for the province to find a place for marijuana to be sold.

Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale and Health Minister Jane Philpott are reviewing Justin Trudeau’s mandate letter that proposed marijuana legalization. The ministry is planning a process that will potentially lead to marijuana’s legalization and regulation.

Many experts have already stated that the legalization of marijuana makes economic sense due to the fact that the province cold make millions in tax revenue, as well as prevent the government’s unnecessary spending on investigating and prosecuting citizens for possession of the substance.

The federal government is to legalize the sale of the drug as well as make the decision between selling it at medical marijuana dispensaries or the LCBO.
