Torontonians can skate in the clouds now

But not everyone will get a chance at rooftop rink

Reaching new heights in a first for the city of Toronto, Molson Canadian revealed its new ice skating rink built atop a skyscraper in the financial district.

The rink at 120 Adelaide St. W. boasts an arena that measures 100 by 45 feet and a view like no other at 32 stories high.

Anyone is able to purchase time to skate on the rink beginning Jan. 29, and ending Feb. 9, but the criteria for skating has a catch. Those wanting to experience the view can sign up at rooftoprink.ca, but only groups of 20 can be submitted at a time.

Molson Canadian held its #AnythingForHockey twitter campaign which launched in October 2015. The brewery asked fans to submit the best hockey-related story with a chance to win a role in a commercial set atop the rink.

Toronto resident Nicholas Callahan, 23, sees the rink as more of a publicity stunt, rather than an actual functioning rink.

“I get what Molson is doing, but I’m not going to book the rink for 20 people. It’s clearly targeted at corporate groups,” Callahan said.

The opening of the rink didn’t just attract curiosity from the public, though. Former Toronto Maple Leafs player Peter Ing tweeted, “It’s like being a kid again.”
