Meetings held across Toronto on road safety

Deemed one of city's most important issues

Meetings are being held across the city to share views and opinions on road safety in Toronto.

In conjunction with advocacy groups, the meetings are aimed at identifying safety risks on the road and brainstorming potential initiatives to reduce transportation-related injuries.

Ward 25 councillor Jaye Robinson, who is also chair of the city’s public works committee, held one such session earlier this week.

“The meeting this morning provided valuable insight into the various challenges and opportunities that we have in front of us in order to improve safety on our roads,” Robinson said. “We heard loud and clear from roundtable participants that road safety is one of the most important issues facing the City of Toronto.”

Top topics brought up in the meeting include distracted driving, school zone enforcement, and cyclist safety.

Ideas collected from the meeting are to become part of the Road Safety Strategic Plan being presented to the public works committee in spring.
