Man arrested for church break-ins

Three East York churches hit within eight days, police say

A man is in custody in connection with a string of church break-ins in East York.

Police report on Feb. 20 a church at Donlands and Cosburn avenues was broken into overnight. The church was ransacked and property stolen.

Five days later, a church at Greenwood and Cosburn avenues was also broken into, police say. The church was again ransacked overnight and, in this case, cash was stolen.

Also, on the night of Feb. 28, a church at Pape and Cosburn avenues was broken into, police say. The church was once again ransacked and property, as well as cash, was stolen.

Griffin Cole, 18, was arrested the next day. He has been charged with 15 offences, including five counts of breaking and entering and four counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
