The Canadian rock band is to receive the key to the city on Saturday, Mayor John Tory has announced.
Guitarist Alex Lifeson and vocalist Geddy Lee are to be presented with the key at the opening of a Willowdale park to be named after them. Drummer Neil Peart is also to be honoured but is not expected to attend.
The band is known for its hits like “YYZ” and “Closer to the Heart.” Tory tweeted that “for 40+ years, RUSH has rocked the world with 39 albums (and) 70+ singles.” The band is also known for its involvement in charity for UNICEF, United Way and the Toronto Food Bank.
The band has already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has received the Order of Canada.
