An accident in Toronto’s Greektown has left three pedestrians injured, with two of them rushed to a nearby trauma centre.

About noon on Sept. 27 a man in his 80s struck with his vehicle three pedestrian near the intersection of Logan and Danforth avenues, police say. The man was reportedly backing up from a bank’s parking lot when he climbed onto the curb, then hit a garbage bin, before hitting the pedestrians.

The three victims were sitting on a bench at Alexander the Great Parkette  in the heart of Greektown on the Danforth.

“When I heard the car, I turned my head and saw the car coming towards the bench, I yelled and jumped out of the way,” said Maria, a local resident who didn’t want her full name identified. “If it wasn’t for the fire hydrant there would’ve been more victims.”

This accident came just days after hot tar fell on a 46-year-old man at the same intersection, sending him to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Const. Clint Stibbe, the victims are in stable condition and expected to recover. Police are investigating the causes of the accident. No charges have been laid yet.
