Eva’s Initiatives, an organization created to help homeless youth, opened a new facility in Toronto’s Fashion District on Sept. 28.

Mayor John Tory and Ward 20 councillor Joe Cressy helped cut the ribbon for the opening of the facility.

Cressy called Eva’s Phoenix an important building to have in his community.

“It’s an incredibly important facility that not only helps to house youth who are transitioning into more permanent housing — it also allows them to have job training and receive education on site,” Cressy said. “It is extremely effective and I’m lucky to have them in my neighbourhood.”

The new location will provide housing for 50 youth ages 16 to 24 for a year. Aside from providing housing, Eva’s Phoenix will also train the youth to be able to find and maintain housing and employment when they leave the facility.

Youth will live in shared townhouse-style units and have access to shared spaces within the building. They will also be put into exercises, workshops and hands-on programs.

Eva’s Phoenix will also help youth look for jobs and careers of their choice through training and employment programs.
