Pedestrian safety campaign launching today in Toronto

Weekend of accidents shows need for campaign

After a weekend that saw six pedestrian accidents, including one death, Toronto Police are launching a pedestrian safety campaign today.

Titled “Step up and be safe,” the campaign is intended to educate and bring awareness to pedestrians to limit accidents and fatalities in the city.

To date this year, the city has faced 36 pedestrian traffic deaths, which is up from previous years and represents over half of the city’s traffic related fatalities.

According to police, seniors are the most vulnerable age group representing 63 per cent of the total fatalities. Police are looking to focus heavily on that demographic.
