Metallica has ticket prices booming for small-venue Toronto show

Playing charity concert tonight at Opera House

One of America’s top heavy metal bands, Metallica, will be playing for charity tonight at Toronto’s Opera House, donating proceeds to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Metallica had announced tonight’s event on Twitter, following the recent release of their 10th studio album Hardwired… To Self-Destruct. The band is encouraging fans to bring non-perishable food items to the 950-person venue.

Members of the bands fan club, Fifth Members, were able to score tickets for just $25 while the general public could purchase tickets for $100. All tickets were sold out in minutes but tickets can be found online ranging anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

A fake website, TheTorontoOperaHouse.com, was even created to lure desperate ticket buyers into getting their hands on any overpriced tickets left. The Opera House warned fans that the site was nothing more than a scam, posting “THIS IS A FAKE SITE!” on its Facebook page.

The venue now seems to be cracking down on scalpers and restricting for all tickets to be picked up tonight at the box office. Each ticket-holder must show photo ID in addition to the credit card used to purchase the ticket in order to get in. The Opera House also stresses that once tickets are picked up, guests must enter the venue immediately. Re-entering is prohibited.

Doors open for tonight’s show at 6 p.m.
