Hit by vehicle near Bathurst and Sheppard

A woman believed to be 87 years old was struck and killed by a vehicle in the city’s north end.

Paramedics were called to the scene on Bathurst Street, south of Sheppard Avenue West,shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday to find the woman in life-threatening condition.

She was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, had just left a local seniors’ residence before crossing the street with her walker, police say.

Police say the driver of the vehicle who struck the woman remained at the scene.

This is the city’s 76th traffic fatality of the year, said Const. Clint Stibbe from Toronto Police Traffic Services. Forty-two of those have been pedestrians, 28 of whom were seniors.
