A man in his 40s is dead after being shot in East York.

The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. last night on Donlands Avenue north of Plains Road, police say.

The victim, who has been identified as 46-year-old Adrian Kaloshi of York Region, was leaving a social club at 393 Donlands Ave. when a man approached and shot him in the head, police and paramedics said at the scene.

Kaloshi was rushed to a nearby trauma centre but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Witnesses at the scene told the Observer they saw the man falling but did not hear any gunshots.

Bystanders raised concern this was not the first time such an incident occurred near the establishment.

“It happens all the time, people come out the social club yelling and screaming,” said a local resident who didn’t want to be identified.

“Not that long ago, two man came out of the social club and the one pulled a machete and started chasing the other,” a local man added.

The area is familiar with crime, since a convenience store located south of the crime scene was robbed at knifepoint last week.

The police are continuing the investigation and searching for video footage from nearby stores. They encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

This is the city’s 64th homicide this year.
