Basketball coach charged in sexual exploitation

14-year-old girl played sports at Flemingdon recreation centre

A recreation centre basketball coach has been charged with several offences for the alleged sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl.

The exploitation is believed to have taken place over nearly a year, starting in August 2015 at a recreation centre near Flemingdon Park, police say. The alleged abuse stopped after the girl stopped attending the community centre’s sports program.

Christopher Melville has been charged with sexual exploitation, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and telecommunication with a person under 18 for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Jan. 19.
