Man charged for East York murder

Dawes Road apartment scene of city's 10th homicide

A man has been charged for second-degree murder after a woman died from injuries in a Dawes Road apartment building Thursday morning.

Police did not know the cause of death, as they don’t have the coroner’s report yet, Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said.

The man and woman, identified as Michelle Riley, 36, were reportedly roommates at 500 Dawes Rd., police said.

Police responded to a radio call for an assault at 8:31 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, a woman was found in medical distress but died at the scene, according to police.

Brian Williams, 51, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was to appear in court on Friday.

The East York murder is Toronto’s 10th of the year.
