Severe weather warning for Toronto area

GTA to get up to 30 cm of snow by Wednesday

Hang tight, GTA citizens, spring has not yet sprung.

Toronto is under a severe weather warning, with a winter storm expected to hit by Monday and last into early Wednesday.

Snow will begin in areas to the northeast, and is expected to fall between 10 and 20 cm in Toronto. However, some areas across southwestern Ontario are forecasted to see 30 cm of snow.

Some parts of the GTA were struck by a winter storm Friday night. Mississauga experienced slippery roads and minimal visibility Saturday morning.

Residents woke up to a surprise of snow, with a snowfall of two to five centimeters overnight.

According to Environment Canada, gusting winds of 50 km/h are expected from the northeast, resulting in blowing snow.

Residents who commute may want to take precautions and leave earlier than usual to avoid delays.

Environment Canada recommends drivers “drive slow, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”

The temperature forecast is expected to be near -10 C tonight, which will cause slippery surfaces.
