With severe weather conditions this week, one might think the fun of March break is over before it’s really begun, but it isn’t.
Here are some events happening in Toronto and East York for the rest of the March break.
March Mania (March 11–19, 12 p.m–4p.m)
A fun event designed for family in the valley at the Todmorden Mills heritage site. Guests get a taste of history by visiting historic homes where they can try meals, toys and games asociated with people who lived in East York from past generations.
Toronto Raptors (March 16 and 19)
After overcoming their two game losing streak with a win against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, Toronto Raptors try to find a rhythm in games against Oklahoma City (March 16) and the Indiana Pacers (March 19) as NBA teams prepare for the playoffs.
New Ideas Festival (March 8–26)
Taking place at the Alumnae Theatre, the New Ideas Festival celebrates experimental theatre and writing with with different plays running for three weeks from Wednesdays to Saturdays at 8 p.m. This week’s plays are The Red Lacquered Box by Burke Campbell and directed by Lynn Weintraub, Parallax by Michelle Glennie and directed by Ara Glenn-Johanson, Y by Rosemary Doyle and directed by Sandra Cardinal, Professionally Ethnic by Bobby Del Rio and directed by Rouvan Silogix, and a reading on March 18 of Who You Callin Black, Eh? by Rita Shelton Deverell and directed by Donald Molnar.
Mrs. Helen Presents (Canadian Premiere, March 15 – April 23)
Based on a film, British musical Mrs Henderson Presents has its Canadian premiere at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, with performances starting March 15 and running to April 23. It was praised by the London critics during its London season at the Noel Coward Theatre.
