Doug Ford won’t run for PC Party leadership

Doug Ford announced Thursday he will not run for the leadership of Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Party, in what was “the most difficult decision of (his) life,” he said, in a press conference at his family’s Deco Label and Tags in Etobicoke.

“I decided right up to—literally—last night that my priority is my family. My priority is our business,” Ford said.

Ford would not rule out running to be a MPP, however.

“I’m taking a break for a little bit,” Ford said. “I love politics, I love serving the people. At this stage in my life, I just need to take a little break.”

In the meantime, he’s putting his support behind PC MPP Christine Elliott, a long-time friend of the Ford family. Elliott is one of five candidates to succeed Tim Hudak as PC leader.

Ford did admit that his brother, Rob, “wasn’t happy” with his decision not to run.
