From humble beginnings, Jamal Burger is now one of the most popular photographers on Instagram. The Toronto native quickly gained a large following after starting his Instagram account in 2015. With over 200,000 followers, he has come a long way since his days of dangling his sneakers over rooftops.
Some of the residents in one of Toronto’s oldest community housing complexes have waited as long as seven years for the City of Toronto to make property standards repairs. Data released by the city’s Municipal Licensing and Standards department shows over 100 tenant complaints have been made to the city about Vendome Place, with some dating back to 2010.
The developer, KG Group, says that it has an excellent construction safety record, and the neighbours will be unaffected as the apartment building goes up. But some parents say that at the very least, there will be vibration, noise and dust. The TDSB says it’s assessing the risk from construction, and a report on that will be released in April.
For one Canadian family, serving in the Second World War really meant sacrifice. John Dufort recalled a powerful entry his father made in his diary before deciding to enlist in Canada’s war effort.
“He wrote in his diary, ‘My older brother Paul and my older sister Mary have all left and gone off to war,’” he said. “’We are selling our house here in Saskatoon and who knows if we will ever see each other again.’”
