“You never know where a client is going to take the dog,” Westgate said. “My job is to make sure it gets used to as many places and situations as possible. That way when she’s working, she’s familiar with things and she won’t get startled or scared.”
But these plants, displayed in the facility’s Papermill Gallery, weren’t real. They were artful renditions by the Botanical Artists of Canada (BAC), which held its annual juried art exhibition at the centre, located on Pottery Road.
Sisters Betty, Eleni and Samantha Bakopoulos, authors of the award-winning cookbook Three Sisters Around the Greek Table, recently held a cooking demonstration and book-signing at St. Barnabus Anglican Church on Danforth Avenue.
The series continues to showcase the most brilliant Canadian authors of 2010. It also gives readers and authors a chance to meet each other face-to-face, which Fielding called an encounter like no other.
It may be 2010 but 8-year-old Sierra Tsolakis and her 6-year-old sister Saige recently spent an afternoon in the 1800s. The two took part in a Victorian baking workshop at the Scarborough Museum Dec. 3, part of the museum’s Festive Christmas Weekends.

“We’ve noticed more so in the States than in Canada, that we’re bringing a piece of our country with us when we travel. We notice the difference when we meet new people from that city and experience the vibe of the town that we’re in – it’s then we realize we’re really from Toronto and what this city has done to shape us.”
It has seen a long shelf life, dating all the way back to 500 B.C. It had a hay-day in the 1960s and has a quiet following ever since, with fans sleeping, going around the world and walking the dog. It’s the yoyo.
