Team Canada women bounce back to tie Rivalry Series

Jaime Lee Rattray scored the game winner and added an assist to lead Team Canada to a 4-3 win over Team USA evening up the Rivalry Series at one game apiece in women’s hockey international play Thursday night.
Canada was forced to rebound after dropping the opener Tuesday night in London 1-0, where American goaltender Alex Rigsby had a 33 save shutout performance.

No NHL? No problem!

When the National Hockey League announced on April 3, 2017, that its players would not be allowed to participate at the 2018 Olympics, viewers were not amused. Turns out the absence of NHL players brought a sense of unpredictability and a belief among teams that anybody could go far.



Andre De Grasse cheered at Markham parade

Olympic medallist Andre De Grasse wasn’t participating in the city’s Terry Fox Run Sunday. The sprinter passed by the route of the run at noon, which was when the annual event ended. De Grasse was heading to the Markham Pan Am Centre for a ceremony to honour local Olympians. The city will name a street in De Grasse’s honour. The mayor, Frank Scarpitti, rode along in the convertible.

Swimming in Canada: A new pool and a bright future

With the 2015 Pan American Games in the past, the pool at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough has turned its focus to the future of swimming in Canada. Coming off the most successful summer muti-sport event in the country’s history, the goal is to continue to grow the sport not only for the 2016 Olympics, but for the next few cycles. However, the first step is Rio, and improving on the two medals won at London 2012.
