Twenty thousand jobs are expected for Canadians after the announcement of the $1.2-billion investment in Loblaw companies.One hundred of the Canadian stores will be renovated and 50 new locations are expected.
The thing they’re most sad about? The employees losing their jobs: “It very, very hard to find a job so it’s sad a lot of people are losing theirs.”
Once again Target Canada has found itself trending on social media for the wrong reasons— this time for the size of its ex-CEO’s severance package.

This week, Joanne Barden stood at the entrance of the newly opened Target store on Danforth Avenue. She had a box of poppies slung around her neck. “Two young men… they took poppies and made a donation … and they told me they respected our veterans very much, and they respected the military, and I found that extremely rewarding,” Barden said.
Retail giant Sears is sharpening its markdown pencils and getting ready to spruce up some of its stores ahead of a major new competitor entering the Canadian market. U.S. retailer Target has plans to open 125 to 135 stores in Canada beginning in March 2013. In a move to stay competitive, Sears last month announced it would be slashing prices on 5,000 items.
