UTSC Professors nominated for Best Lecturer
Professors Daniel Bender, Gerald Cupchik, Joan Forder, Mark A. Fournier, Raymond Grinnell and Mark Schmuckler of the University of Toronto at Scarborough have been nominated as semi-finalists to compete for the title of best lecturer in the province for 2008 and a $10,000 scholarship. The winner will be chosen by viewers who will vote for their favourite lecturer in March on Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. on TVO.

Celebrate Black History and Chinese New Year
Celebrate Black History Month and Chinese New Year on Feb. 6 at the Malvern Library, 30 Sewells Rd. At 2 p.m., the library will be host to actor, dancer and storyteller Donald Carr. The library will also have Chinese New Year’s stories and crafts from 4 to 4:30 p.m.

TVOKids Library Tour
The TVOKids Library Tour will be coming to Malvern Library at 30 Sewells Rd. on Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. TVOKids host Giselle will visit the library and participate in activities for about 45 minutes. She will also do a reading and invite kids to create their own bookmarks. The tour is free.

Need help writing a resume?
The Morningside Library will be holding a series of employment workshops for adults on how to write resumes and apply for a job successfully. A “How to Write Effective Resumes” workshop will be held on Jan. 29. Another workshop on “How to Impress Interviewers” will take place on Feb. 5. 416-396-8881 or in person.

Potential Sex Offender
Police are looking for a possible sex offender after an eight-year-old girl was apparently grabbed by a man in the playground of Mary Shadd Public School, 135 Hupfield Trail on Jan.11. The girl managed to run into the school. The man is described as brown, with a thin build and a scar on his index finger, 22-23 years of age and about five-foot-nine to five-foot-10. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police at 416-808-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.

Robbery at Daisy Mart
The owner of a Daisy Mart on Lawrence Avenue East was tied up and then stabbed after refusing to hand over cash on Jan. 11. Two men, one wearing a disguise then left the store taking with them some of the man’s belongings and some store items. The store owner was later treated by the EMS for minor injuries. Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 416-808-4300.
