Morningside Crossing Grand Opening
Come and join the fun as Morningside Crossing, on the south east corner of Morningside Avenue and Kingston Road, celebrates its grand opening Sept. 27. The new shopping plaza, which replaced Morningside Mall, will feature food and entertainment from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Firing up Prevention Week
In honour of fire prevention week in Toronto, Scarborough Village Recreation Centre, 3600 Kingston Rd., will be having presentations Tuesday and Thursday at 6:45 p.m. and 8 p.m. from Oct. 5-11. Firefighters will be answering questions and teaching both adults and children on how they can prevent fires at home.

Cedarbrae Public Library closed for renovations
Cedarbrae Public Library, 545 Markham Rd., will be closed for renovation on Oct. 5 until 2010. Extended hours will be offered at Bendale Library, 1515 Danforth Rd., as well as stops by the Toronto Public Library’s Bookmobile at the Cedarbrae parking lot on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting Oct. 16.

Looking to complete your 40 hours?
Malvern Public Library, 30 Sewells Rd., will be holding a volunteer and job fair on Oct. 6 from 1-5 p.m. Various community organizations will be present looking for students who need to complete the mandatory 40 hours of volunteer service as well as students who are looking for part-time jobs.

Don’t just walk, run to the zoo!
The Toronto Zoo invites runners and walkers of all ages to participate in a fundraising 5K run/walk and 10K run. The Oasis Zoo run will take place Oct. 18. Anyone can pledge a runner in order to help support the Toronto Zoo foundation. More information is available at www.canadarunningseries.com/zoorun.

Boo at the Zoo
The Toronto Zoo will be hosting its annual Boo at the Zoo event on Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Zellers Discovery Zone. Children 12 years and under who come to the zoo on these days in costume have free admission as long as they are accompanied by an adult (up to two children per adult).
