Toronto teams give to area neighborhoods:
Malvern and the Kingston Road-Galloway Road neighbourhood will be receiving presents from Toronto’s four major sports teams. The Leafs, Jays, Argos, and Raptors have joined together with the Youth Challenge Fund, to create “Team Up for Youth”, an initiative that focuses funds on programs for kids in GTA neighborhoods. The provincial government has matched the team’s contributions, creating $1.4 million in funds.

West Hill alum has solid NHL start:
Chris Stewart, 20, a graduate of West Hill Collegiate, has been assigned to the Colorado Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie monsters. Stewart was drafted 18th overall by the Aves in 2006. He netted an assist last week for the Aves in the pre-season, playing on a line with Joe Sakic

Local body builder wins major competition:
Bodybuilder Compton Austin came out on top at the Master’s Canadian Heavyweight Championship, held in Montreal earlier this month. Austin, 41, trains in a studio at Scarborough Golf Club Road and Lawrence Avenue. This contest was his fourth try at a national title, which he will try to defend a year from now at the same competition.
