Catholic schools compete in flag football:
Blessed Mother Theresa Titans put two teams into the semi-finals of a provincial flag football tournament on Oct. 11 at Jean Vanier, but were unable to pull off a victory in either. Both times the loss came at the hands of local rivals Pope John Paul II. The Panthers won both finals at the flag football tournament for Grade 9 students sponsored by OFSAA, the provincial high school sports body.
West Hill beats King:
Sally Asante scored 18 points as the West Hill Warriors continued their almost-perfect season with a 47-41 victory over R.H. King Academy in a senior girl’s basketball game on Oct. 14. Salem Woldu had 12 points for King. West Hill is in second place in the East, closely behind David and Mary Thompson.
Mowat leads in field hockey:
Mowat Gaels remained undefeated when they beat Sir Wilfred Laurier 1-0 in girl’s field hockey on Oct. 15. The Gaels head the East Region’s Tier 2 by five points and their next game is yet to be scheduled.
Pope Panthers dominate the courts:
Pope John Paul II got 17 points from Samantha Smith and sailed by Senator O’Connor 48-28 in senior girls’ basketball on Oct. 20. On the same night, Jahmela Stephenson’s 16 points weren’t enough to head off a 33-22 defeat by Etienne Brule over Mother Teresa. Bouthaina Bennani had 11 for the winners.
