Economic gap grows between students

A Toronto District School Board survey found a major socioeconomic divide among students.

In comparing Grade 3 and Grade 6 test scores, the study found children from high-income homes scored 30 percentage points higher than children from low-income households.

Half of the board’s students are from low-income households that make less than $50,000 annually.

One of the ways poverty is tackled is through breakfast programs. More than 500 student nutrition programs serve 98,000 students.
