  • Firearms deaths are the third leading cause of fatalities in youth between 15 – 24.
  • Youth between the ages of 12 – 17 accused of a violent offence are more likely than adults to use a firearm.
  • A rate of over three youths per day were accused of a firearm-related offence in 2006.
  • Canada ranks fifth out of 26 countries in the rate of firearms deaths among youth under 14-years-old.
  • According to the Canadian Police Information Centre 85,000 firearms are recorded as stolen or missing since 1974.
