Ruiz named triple-A MVP

Blue Jays rookie Randy Ruiz is making a case that he belongs in the major leagues next season.

The late-season sensation was named the R. Howard Webster Award winner Thursday, given to the triple-A MVP.

Ruiz belted seven homers and drove in 14 runners in 24 games since being called up in August. The first baseman had a .320 batting average, 25 home runs and 106 RBIs for the Las Vegas 51s.

He also added the Pacific Coast League MVP earlier this season.

Toronto named the honour after R. Howard Webster, who was the club’s first chairman of the board.
