Rooftop drama comes to an end

A 24-hour standoff ended Sept. 18 after a man refused to come down from the rooftops of townhouses in the Sheppard Road and Rouge River Driver area.

Rodion Steve Roberts, 44, is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 5 at 10 a.m.

He has been charged with seven counts related to mischief including two for assaulting a police officer.

Chris Cruz has lived in the neighbourhood for six months.“I thought this area was pretty safe compared to where I used to live, but the fact that this happens here goes to show crazy things can happen just about anywhere,” Cruz said. “Personally I think he’s just begging for attention.”

According to residents the man had threatened to burn down his house earlier this month.
