The Danforth Redhawks rode three touchdowns from Christoper Spence to a 24-12 victory on Tuesday over the CW Jeffreys Saints.
Spence also contributed with several key plays defensively, and Jay Cote added the fourth score of the day as the Redhawks upped their mark to 2-1 with the home win.
On the game’s opening drive, Spence ran around left end to give Danforth a lead it would never relinquish. He added another in the second quarter to make it 12-6 at halftime, and his third score put the game out of reach.
“He’s been a big-play guy all year,” Redhawks head coach Iain McLeod said of Spence.
“He’s a good athlete. He’s dedicated to football. He did everything we expected and a little bit more.”
Aaron Atwell and Adian Johns scored for the Saints (0-3), who have been outscored 100-18 this season.
McLeod also gave credit to a defence that came up with a fumble recovery on Jeffreys’ opening drive and a late interception to thwart any possible comeback.
“We worked hard on defence,” the coach said. “They’re coming together. They’re jelling.”
One area Danforth needs to work on is kicking converts. They missed all four, two blocked and two fumbled snaps.
Next up for the Redhawks is Eastern Commerce at home, while CW Jeffreys takes on Sir Sanford Fleming on the road.
