Attak and White Eagles ready for CSL final

Not only are the Trois-Rivieres Attak headed back to the Canadian Soccer League [CSL] championship game, but they will get a chance to exact some revenge on the team that denied them a title last year.

This Saturday, the Attak will meet the Serbian White Eagles at BMO Field [5 p.m. ET], looking for their first Championship in club history.

A rematch of last year’s finals, the White Eagles emerging with their first league title with a 3-2 win on penalty kicks after the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie in a 105-minute game at Esther Shiner Stadium.

However, Serbian will be taking on a far different Trois-Rivieres squad, one that finished not only atop the National Division during the regular season, 13 points ahead of the St. Catharines Wolves, but first overall in league standings [12-4-2].

Last Sunday, the Attak defeated the Italia Shooters 1-0 in overtime on a Shady Saleh goal after the two teams were tied at one apiece after regulation.

Serbian capped off another successful campaign, capturing the International Division crown with an 11-4-3 record. Serbian also has the experience factor coming into this weekend’s game as they have appeared in every finals since 2006.

The White Eagles beat the Toronto Croatia 1-0 last Saturday on the heels of Nikola Sisovic’s game winner in overtime.

During the regular season, the two had one victory apiece with the Attak winning 2-1 at home on Sept. 13 and the White Eagles winning by an identical score at Downsview Park 2-1 on July 19.
