A man in his late 20s is recovering in hospital after being shot in the abdomen yesterday afternoon at a Morningside Avenue and Ellesmere Road apartment building.

Police found the man in the lobby area of the building at 750 Morningside Ave. just after 4 p.m., responding to calls that shots were heard, Toronto Police Const. Tony Vella said.

The victim was rushed to Sunnybrook hospital, where he underwent emergency life-saving surgery.  He is expected to survive, Vella said. Police did not release the victim’s name.

One lobby window of the highrise was shattered.

The shooter remains on the loose.  Police do not have a suspect description at this time.
