Explosives, weapons found in Scarborough storage unit

The Scarborough Rapid Transit line was shut down temporarily Wednesday evening after police found explosives in a storage unit.

Police had been conducting an investigation at the Dayton Self storage unit near Progress Avenue and Kennedy Road.

“They executed a search warrant at a storage unit and found a cache of weapons and some explosives,” Staff Sgt. Dean Bertrim told the Toronto Star.

Toronto Police closed the Scarborough RT line, the unit and Progress Ave. between Midland and Kennedy avenues. The Toronto Police ETF explosives unit was on the scene outside the storage unit.

The RT was shut down for about an hour starting at 6:20 p.m. while shuttle buses serviced the route.

  1. Heard a large explosion about half an hour ago. I guess the police detonated the explosives at the Leslie Street Spit
