TFC looking to get back into the playoff hunt

With just seven games left in the MLS season heading into Saturday’s game against D.C. United, Toronto FC is going to have to start winning if they want to earn their first ever playoff berth.

TFC find themselves sitting four points out of the playoff picture and they have not been helping their cause of late.

In the past five games, they have gone winless with a couple of draws, including the 0-0 match on Wednesday against the Chicago Fire.

Wednesday’s game was characteristic of Toronto’s fortunes of late, where they came up with opportunities to score, but ultimately, were unable to cash in.

Toronto will look to get back on the right track with the help of some home cooking.

United may just be what the doctored ordered for the Reds considering they are the worst team in the league this season and Toronto has played well at home, earning six of their seven wins in the friendly confines of BMO Field.

To further bolster their chance at earning a much needed three points, TFC may also see the return of forward Mista to the active roster as he has been training with the team and will be a game-time decision.

If Mista is able to go, the additional attacker may help spur an offence that has been abysmal during their recent losing streak, managing only two goals in the five-game stretch.

Goals will be very important for TFC against DC United because they will need to decrease their goal differential of minus-four to something more competitive.

However, regardless of Mista’s availability, TFC head coach Preki understands the gravity of the game tomorrow and the final six games that will follow it.

“We know the importance of the game and we know that whoever steps on the field will leave everything out there,” Preki told torontofc.ca. “We have been playing a lot of games and we have to find a way to get a result.”

This was mirrored by TFC captain Dwayne De Rosario, who told Rogers Sportsnet after Wednesday’s contest that “every game is a playoff game from now on for me.”

De Rosario’s quest to take TFC to the playoffs will continue Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on CBC.
