Del Grande victorious in Ward 39

The mood is jovial at Mon Sheong Long Term Care Centre, after Mike Del Grande’s decisive victory in Ward 39 Scarborough-Agincourt.

Del Grande said that in the long run, the better politician won. He said he felt the victim of unfair tactics by opponent Kevin Xu after Xu allegedly made the candidates’ race an ethnic issue.

Del Grande said this win signifies that he represents all people regardless of race.

Del Grande said he hopes his expertise as a chartered accountant will finally be put to use in council. He’s glad Rob Ford won the mayoral race, as they agree on policies, such as regarding wasteful spending.

However, he said he does not agree with ford’s proposal to cut 44 councillors down to 22. The wards would be too large for councillors to handle, as they’re too diverse, Del Grande said.

Del Grande’s son, John Del Grande, was elected as a Toronto Catholic District School Board trustee.
