Fragedakis in Ward 29; toss-up in Ward 26

Published on

Well over an hour after polls have closed, the race in Ward 26/Don Valley West is still too close to call. But another of East York’s marquee matchups looks like a done deal.

Incumbent John Parker still holds a slim lead over newcomer Jon Burnside in Ward 26; the spread is less than one per cent of the total vote.

In Ward 29/Toronto-Danforth, meanwhile, it appears that Jane Pitfield’s veteran status as a former councillor and mayoral candidate has not been enough to sway voters.

With 27 of 28 polls reporting, Fragedakis has a near-landslide 6,905 votes, putting her more than 2,000 votes ahead of Pitfield. Jennifer Woods is running a close third.

Fragedakis’ numbers translate to a 42 per cent stake of the total vote.

However, in Ward 31/Beaches-East York, the voters appear to be heading down the same road in 2010 as they did in 2006. Incumbent Janet Davis holds a massive 8,716 vote lead over her nearest opponent. That’s the largest differential across the board in East York and an expected result; she earned around 66 per cent of the total vote in 2006.
