‘Small Wonder’ concedes in mayor’s race

Big efforts from a little man weren’t enough to win this mayoral election.

As Joe Pantalone approached the podium, the crowd chanted “Joe, Joe, Joe” repeatedly.

“Thank you guys, you are the best,” began Pantalone’s concession speech. “I will always love the people of Toronto.”

Despite receiving just over 11 per cent of the vote, the Small Wonder, as he’s known, didn’t appear deflated or disappointed at all.

“Tens of thousands of Torontonians want a progressive city, and they showed that by voting for me, and for that I’ll be forever grateful,” Pantalone said.

The former deputy mayor continuously trailed in third throughout the mayoral race, behind George Smitherman and newly elected mayor Rob Ford.

“I want to congratulate the people Toronto’s choice today, Mr. Rob Ford,” Pantalone said. “He gave us a valuable reminder that taxpayers’ money must be treated with respect, and I think that must be heard by all of us.”

Ford won the election with 370,593 votes, 47 per cent of the voter turnout.
