Paul Ainslie wins in Ward 43

The crowd erupted in cheers when the first poll results came in at Paul Ainslie headquarters.

The race for Ward 43 ended up being a landslide victory for the incumbent, as Ainslie secured over 60 per cent of the vote. Second-place John Laforet received nearly 29 per cent.

The returning councillor of Scarborough East told the Observer at his election party that he never thought he would lose.

“In the four years that I’ve been in the community I’ve known what I could do”

Ainslie supporter Saleh Hatejee said there was no way his candidate was going to lose.

“Ainslie has done a great job with the Cederbrae Library renovation and he voted against the vehicle registration and land transfer tax,” Hatejee said. “He’s been very helpful and he’s a councillor that’s willing to listen and he’s done a lot to solve the property problem at Morningside Crossing.”
