Police looking for leads in Morningside muggings

Three University of Toronto Scarborough Campus students were mugged at gunpoint near Morningside Ave. and Military Trail while walking to the store on Oct. 16.

Kevin Stojanovski, 18, and two friends were headed to the Wal-Mart at Morningside and Milner avenues at 2 a.m. when they were stopped by three males, according to one of the victims.

“They were walking behind us saying ‘Hey. Hey’ and one of my friends turned around and said. ‘Isn’t that someone we know?’ So we turned around and waited,” Stojanovsk isaid. “We thought they thought we were someone else too.”

One attacker pulled out a gun and told the boys to go behind the fence near Morningside Ave. and Military Trail, according to Stojanovski. The attackers took Stojanovski’s cell phone and wallet, as well as his friends’ phones.

The suspects were described as three males wearing dark clothes and hoodies.

Stojanovski said he has walked to Wal-Mart before without incident.
“I’m from Cambridge so I’m used to being able to walk the streets at two in the morning,” he said. “Now I realize how cautious I have to be.”

Another mugging happened Oct. 17 near the same area, police say.

Anyone with information is asked to call Toronto Police or Crime Stoppers at 222-TIPS.
