Review: Best sports bars in Scarborough

The Scarborough Observer’s Kathleen Wright hit the road to uncover the best spots in Scarborough to raise a pint and watch the game. These are her Top 3.

The Foxy’s Bar & Grill

3406 Kingston Rd.

The Foxy’s Bar & Grill, a one-month-old sports bar with a country twist, has a lot to offer sports fans.

Not only does it have flat-screen televisions ranging in size from 47 to 55 inches, it offers $3 domestic beers, a pool table, dart boards and a large open patio.

On Friday and Saturday nights it hosts karaoke and live country music.

NHL hockey and NBA basketball are the sports of choice, though UFC takes over on nights it’s on.

Food prices for the usual staples — including wings, hamburgers, fries and nachos — range from $7 to $15.

This is definitely a place to grab a beer — domestic or import — and a pound of wings, shoot some pool and watch your sports team win.

Sports Café (Champions)

2839 Eglinton Ave. E.

Sports Café (Champions) has been around since 1998.

It has acquired a loyal clientele with it’s pool tournaments, food and drink specials and open patio.

The most popular food specials on Mondays and Wednesdays are the wing combos: six wings for $6.95 or 12 for $12.95, both of which come with fries, veggies and dip.

There are over 100 televisions throughout the bar, including a glass-encased room with several televisions dedicated to off-track wagering.

Manager Nikki Grigoriadis says it’s like famed TV-bar Cheers: everyone knows everyone else on a first-name basis.

The bar caters to NHL, NBA as well as UFC fans, not to mention horse racing.

If you have a passion for horse racing and are confident in your wagering skills, this is the place for you.

Smilin’ Jacks Bar & Grill

3482 Lawrence Ave. E.

Four-year-old Smilin’ Jacks Bar & Grill is an open-concept venue featuring pool tables, a fireplace, a large patio and several arcade games throughout.

Most entrées start around the $10 mark, which makes this choice not only delicious but affordable for a fun night out.

The bar has 15 televisions that play NHL and NBA games along with occasional UFC events. On Thursday nights, the bar features karaoke. Live bands play Fridays.

On UFC event nights and weekends, you can expect a full bar with lots of regular clients and an exciting atmosphere to sit back with a pint, a basket of wings, a pocket full of money saved and a smile on your face.
