Buffalo Bills in need of a bounce back

Things won’t be getting any easier for the Buffalo Bills following last week’s meltdown.

Buffalo (2-2) heads across the country to take on the San Francisco 49ers (3-1) at Candlestick Park on Sunday, the first time the teams have met in nearly four years.

Both enter the game with polar-opposite momentum behind them stemming from their Week 4 performances.

The Bills allowed 45 second-half points as they blew a 14-point lead against New England, while the Niners dominated the New York Jets en route to a 34-0 victory.

Things were looking pretty good for the home team at Ralph Wilson Stadium when Ryan Fitzpatrick connected with Donald Jones for a 68 yard touchdown and 21-7 lead early in the third quarter

Then Tom Brady and the Patriots offence exploded for six touchdowns and a 52-28 come from behind win.

Fitzpatrick threw four touchdown passes in the game, a number he unfortunately matched in interceptions.

He’ll have to be sharper against a 49ers’ defence that’s allowing only 277.2 yards a game, third best in the NFL.

It’s a stat Buffalo’s D needs to work on itself. Their 406.5 yards per game is the sixth worst average in the league.

While both teams appear headed in opposite directions based on last week, historically they have been evenly matched when facing one another.

Dating back to 1972 the two teams have split their previous 10 meetings. San Francisco won 10-3 the last time they played at Ralph Wilson Stadium in November 2008, but prior to that in 2004 Buffalo entered Candlestick Park and blasted the 49ers 41-7.

A win on Sunday would keep Buffalo in the thick of the AFC East race where they’re joined by New England and New York at 2-2, one game ahead of Miami.

Kick-off takes place at 4:25 p.m. ET.
