Woman dies after struck by TTC bus

Toronto police are asking for the public’s assistance in connection with a fatal accident that happened on Jan. 23  at 3:56 p.m.

The incident took place at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East and Sinnott Road.

Const. Wendy Drummond, a media relations official with the Toronto police, said a TTC bus struck a 47-year-old woman when she attempted to cross Eglinton Avenue.

The woman was rushed to Sunnybrook hospital with life-threatening injuries. She died the next day of those injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing. The police are calling for witnesses to come forward.

“If anybody within the area happened to see what happened, [who] can describe the events prior to the collision, we’d like to speak with them,” Drummond said.

She emphasizes the importance of road safety to both pedestrians and drivers.

“Personal safety is of utmost importance and should take priority,” Drummond said.

She said it is everyone’s responsibility regardless of whether they have the right of way or not.

“Always look both ways before crossing the street or before completing any type of move within your vehicle. Ensure that you’ve made all efforts to ensure that it is safe to proceed,” Drummond said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1900, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or visit the Toronto police website.
