Scarborough family of five loses home, pets in fire

A two-alarm blaze brought extensive damage to a Scarborough home on Feb. 28.

The house, located on Kessack Court, is occupied by Diana Gardiner and her four children. None of them was home at the time.  Their three pet dogs were left inside and did not survive the blaze.

Toronto Fire Services received the call to the burning house at 6:52 p.m. and were able to get the fire under control by 7:44 p.m.

Despite the quick work of the fire department, the house will likely have to be demolished, says David Eckerman of Toronto Fire Services.

Eckerman said it was not known how long the fire could have been burning before the initial call was made.

More information will follow after the fire marshall investigates.
