Stavrou donating $100K to Scarborough Hospital and 3 other institutions

George Stavrou’s dad had a heart attack in 2006, a triple bypass later that year, a stroke in 2009 and a fatal attack of cancer in March 2011.

Stavrou feels grateful to Scarborough Hospital where his father was taken care of through all these illnesses, so he wants to do something for the hospital.

“I want to say thank you for the support they gave,” Stavrou said.

He plans to donate $25,000 to Scarborough Hospital Foundation to help it provide more rooms at the hospital for cancer patients.

“We’re extremely grateful for his support,” said Guy Bonnell, vice president of community development at the Scarborough Hospital Foundation.

Stavrou is president of Stavrou Method, a guide to health and weight loss, and plans to donate to three other organizations: Centennial College, York University and the YMCA. Each organization would get $25,000.

Centennial College is to get $5,000 a year for the next five years. With this money it would arrange two scholarships of $1,250 each for communication studies and two for health studies programmes.
