Funeral services were held the morning of March13 for 5-year-old Kayleigh Callaghan-Belanger who was struck by a garbage truck on March 7.
Kayleigh and three other children were walking in the area of Cliffside Drive and Kingston Road when they were struck, killing Kayleigh at the scene. Two other children were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The fourth child was not hurt.
Residents say the area lacks safe road conditions and proper signals to indicate a school zone. A petition has also been started to increase road safety to prevent future collisions.
Witnesses say the driver of the truck collapsed after seeing the collision. He was taken away by an ambulance.
No charges have been pressed against the 64-year-old driver at this time, police say.
