Cyclist struck and killed on Kennedy Rd.

Thirty-seven-year-old Henry Mejia is dead after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Kennedy Road near Highway 401 on April 13.

The driver, Alvaro David, 46, is facing seven charges including impaired driving, in connection with the accident.

Police say a driver failed to stop his 1999 Dodge Durango at a red light when exiting the 401 eastbound off-ramp on Kennedy and struck Mejia who was riding in the crosswalk.

The SUV continued east into the Kennedy Road and William Kitchen Road intersection and struck four southbound vehicles and one vehicle heading north.

Police responded to the multi-vehicle collision at 6:42 p.m.

The cyclist was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Four other people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

David appeared in court on April 16 and was released on $25,000 bail.
