The federal government made an announcement on Sept. 23 supporting the new Scarborough subway extension.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Finance Minister Jim Flaherty confirmed that Ottawa agreed to contribute $660 million towards the city’s Scarborough transit plans.
“I just want to let you all know that Minister Flaherty and I, subject, of course, to the normal approval process, have set aside funds to ensure the financing of Toronto’s plan for the Scarborough subway extension,” Harper said in a speech delivered the day before the announcement.
Mayor Rob Ford and TTC Chair Karen Stintz responded positively to the news on Twitter.

I did exactly what the taxpayers asked me to do. And that’s fight, fight and don’t give up on the Scarborough Subway pic.twitter.com/svYpdEE396
