The Scarborough Museum Youth Collective has partnered with the inPrint Collective to host interactive printmaking workshops on Saturday Sept. 28. Visitors will also be able to take home what they make.

Finished prints

Examples of finished prints from Scarborough Museum’s printmaking workshop are displayed.

Elaine Savva, museum coordinator for the Scarborough Museum, praises the partnership.

“They’ve been a great partnership to really teach youth new skills in a variety of things,” Savva said.

Highlights of the event include a variety of printmaking techniques, all on an antique printing press. In total there are two printmaking workshops and two book-binding workshops.

Relief printmaking, one of the techniques to be shown, is also the oldest form. It involves carving out images on wooden blocks, then applying ink and finally pressing it down on paper.

Also being demonstrated is silk screening, a method using a stencil you create yourself and ink.

The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Community members of all ages are welcome to attend.
